Breakfast in Lititz

We enjoyed another trip to downtown Lititz.

The students are becoming more familiar and comfortable with downtown.
They are becoming more independent when crossing the streets at the crosswalks, and looking for the correct sign.
STOP, do NOT Cross!
From Police Station and Post Office
Safe to cross, but check before stepping into the crosswalk

Some of the class enjoyed breakfast at Dosie Dough while the others had a nice breakfast at Spill the Beans.  We broke into two groups so each student could take their time ordering their breakfast and paying for it independently.  Also standing in line and remembering to pick up a napkin were other good skills they could work on! :)

We also enjoyed browsing at Aaron’s Bookstore.
The owners were very accommodating in letting us browse for awhile!

Making a purchase at the book store. The Harry Potter books were quite popular with this student!

We ended the trip with a walk back through the park and MOST of the students were able to find their way back to the high school independently from the park. They are ALL becoming so much more independent in downtown Lititz. On a nice spring weekend, feel free to reinforce their walks to Lititz with a walk into town. I bet your son and daughter could show you around some!

We are planning another trip to Lititz and to the Lititz Rec Center sometime in May!

Week of April 12th

The students did well despite the disruption to our regular routine and schedule this past week.
We did manage a short trip to Lititz Spring Park, but the rain seemed to hamper most of the trip.  Regardless, we realized this was a good life lesson to teach on how to properly hold and handle an umbrella!  We realized that some of the students have not used them before.

We also planted a large variety of flowers seeds. The students are anxious to see what emerges from the soil. Hopefully by mid-May we can begin sending home flowers we grew from seed!

Remember we are walking to Littiz for breakfast on Monday. One of the goals of our class is to help the students to become more independent and comfortable in their community.

This trip is a great opportunity to practice:

  • crossing the street at the crosswalk
  • ordering food in a local establishment ON THEIR OWN
  • walking/staying on the sidewalk while walking in town
  • paying for their food, and waiting for change
  • appropriate social behavior and expectations while out in the community

Police Station and Post Office

Wow what a great trip to downtown Lititz today!  I wanted to post pictures as soon as possible since I know the kids will be talking about it.
Special thanks to Officer Steve Detz at the Lititz Borough Police Station for giving us the tour.

Getting “thrown in jail!”

In jail

Students mailed letters and a Domino’s pizza coupon to themselves.  Hopefully everyone got their mail at home already!!
