I really liked this one for brainstorming and planning and taking notes during a meeting. Rather than list of random thoughs by individuals, each idea can be tied to its parent idea showing relations other than the implied chronological order of generation. Since an email activation is required, if you want to use this with students you will need to get administrative approval for your students to have gaggle accounts.
