Last night Warwick’s Girls Volleyball team competed in the District III Quarterfinals v. Spring Grove at Northern York. This is the furthest girls’ volleyball has advanced in recent memory. In a hard fought battle, the Warriors lost to Spring Grove 3 games to 2. After finding itself in a 2 game to zero deficit, the Warriors found their grove and won the next two games forcing a winner-take-all game 5. Unfortunately the momentum swung back to the Rockets of Spring Grove and Warwick season came to an end. The girls should be very proud of their historic season and for the way they battled all year long. Thanks girls for a great season.

I know it is almost October, but welcome back to the Warwick Athletics blog. Things are looking good for the 2009-10 season for Warwick Athletics. The teams are in full swing and gearing up for the playoffs. It is hard to believe it is that time already.
A few request for you the readers: 1. I need photos. This blog will not be all it can be without great photos. If you have any, please send them to jkosydar@warwicksd.org. I will try to include them and credit the source. 2. Feel free to comment. I appreciate any feedback and suggestions on how to make this blog better. It is my desire to showcase Warwick Athletics and to provide necessary information to the parents and students of the Warwick School District.

The A Landis Brackbill Award is given by the Lancaster Lebanon League to its top senior male and female scholar athlete. Warwick’s nominees for this prestigious award were Eric Resch and Kaitlyn Oliver. As the athletic director, I was honored to nominate these two individuals for the award. They both deserve recognition for their success on the field and in the classroom. Warwick is proud of both Eric and Kaitlyn. Congratulations go to Eric Resch for being the male winner of the award.
The following article in the Intelligencer Journal written by Kevin Freeman highlights Eric and the female winner, Nikki Hess of Donegal.

The Warrior Baseball team saw just how hard it is to defend your title. In an exciting comeback win, the Warriors posted a 6-5 victory over Cedar Crest to advance to the second round of the District III playoffs. The team faces Reading on Thursday evening at Manheim Township at 6:30PM.

Adam Zipko went the distance for the victory.

Warwick fans try to stay warm on a chilly evening.

Let the celebration begin!
Also, Boys Volleyball had a strong showing to defeat Wilson on their home floor to advance to Wednesday’s pool play round at Central York in the District III Tournament. Play begins at 4:30PM with Warwick in the same pool as Central York, Conestoga Valley and Central Dauphin. Top two teams from pool play advance to Friday night’s semi-finals back at Central York. Good luck to both Baseball and Volleyball as they continue on in the District III playoffs.

Congratulations to the Warwick Softball Team on their silver medal performance in the LL League Softball Playoffs. Although a disappointing evening after a 6-0 loss to Donegal in the LL Finals, we are proud of the accomplishments of the softball team so far this year. They continue to dominate Section One as they won the Section One Title for the 5th consecutive year in a row. Here are some photos from last night.

Sam Derr works from the mound.

Derr goes to the opposite field to reach base on a single.

Ashley Tshudy looks to bunt Sam to second.

Sam gets thrown out at the plate trying to get Warwick on the scoreboard.
The Warriors begin District III Playoffs this coming Tuesday as the #2 seed. Their first round game will be at Manheim Central at 6:30PM against the winner of Exeter and New Oxford.

I know I have not done a post in a while. The rain around here is making things miserable. I can’t wait for today’s sunshine and the call for more sun to come. We certainly will enjoy it while it lasts. The rain definitely presents many challenges when deciding whether or not we can hold events. Baseball and Softball are very dependent on playable conditions in the infield. Tennis needs dry courts and Lacrosse and Track are affected by the rain, cold and wind as well. Many times parents want to know if an event is going to be postponed or not. The fast and easy way to find out is to sign up for instant email notification through highschoolsports.net. You can customize which sports you want notified about, or you can find out about all sports. Once a change is made in the computer, you will receive instant notification. This not only includes postponements, but changes to the schedule, time changes and date changes as well. Refer to the following link (Parents Guide to HighSchoolSports.net) to learn how to take advantage of instant notification to make yours and our life easier.
Finally, hope we have plenty of bright, sunny and warm days ahead so we don’t have to worry about anymore postponements. A guy can dream can’t he!
